Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is the Tyion sling easy to tie on? A. Yes there are a few easy steps to tie on the sling. It's better to start in front of the mirror with the instructions on hand. It's just a matter of practice. You do not need to take the sling off when you take the baby out. You can wear it without the baby in and just put the baby in and out at your leisure. Please see our Tying Instructions.
Q. Is the Tyion sling comfortable to wear? A. Absolutely, the sling is very comfortable. It is one of the most ergonomic types of baby carriers on the market today as baby's weight is evenly distributed over both shoulders and your back. The baby is also carried high up on your chest, which means your lower back isn't doing any hard work. If worn correctly it will not give you a backache or shoulder ache like other styles of slings tend to. Several of our customers are chiropractors and they love the Tyion sling. See our Testimonials.
Q. What size do I need? A. The sling is simply a very long piece of blended fabric that has be made especially for us. It wraps around your body and ties at either the front or back, whichever you prefer. Therefore one size fits all. Some people will have extra fabric left over that will drape nicely and some people will have none. The amount of fabric left does not in any way compromise the comfort of the sling.
Q. What age baby can be carried in the Tyion sling? A. It's up to you. The Tyion sling is made from a strong, slighlty stretchy fabric. It can hold babies from newborn onwards. Some people prefer to use the sling only for the first 6 or so months and others carry their babies in it up to 18mths - 2 years. Toddlers prefer to walk (or run!!) which is the only reason mums and dads stop using it.
Q. How do I wash my Tyion Sling? A. The washing instruction tag is located on the sling about a metre from the end. The Tyion sling is made from a blended stretchy fabric. It should be cold washed in a laundry bag (i.e. bra bag) in the washing machine. To dry, fold twice and lay flat or drape over your clothes line in the shade. This will ensure your Tyion will retain its shape and stays in good condition.
Q My baby doesn't seem to like being so snug? A. As your baby gets older and has good neck control you can let their legs and arms out to allow them more movement and freedom. For a younger baby, we recommend that you walk around for a little bit and pat their bottom. You will find they will generally settle down and fall easily off to sleep. The sling is similar to swaddling, your baby may seem frustrated when first swaddled but will settle down and be comforted by it once they are used to the snug feeling. My baby still resists it sometimes when she is overtired but if I walk around for a few minutes she quickly drifts off to sleep.
Q There has been some bad press and a product recall recently for bag style baby slings. Is this sling a Bag style sling? A. No, the Tyion Sling is a wrap style sling. The bag style slings have been associated with infant deaths in premature, sick and low birth weight infants. Bag style (most one shoulder style slings are bag style) slings do not provide enough support for newborn babies and there is a suffocation risk when the babys chin rests on her chest, blocking her airway. The tyion sling provides excellent support for babies of all ages. Please research this more thoroughly if you are concerned. Contact Us if you require more information.
