Mums, Gabriel (Mining Engineer and Surveyor) and Michele (Visual Artist and Geologist) experienced firsthand how hard it was to find stylish, comfortable and affordable baby slings. This is our story... The Tyion (an African name meaning ‘Life's Love') sling came about essentially out of necessity. We found a lot of parents end up buying several baby slings as it is very difficult to find one that is comfortable for both parent and baby. Or, people will buy one, find it extremely hard to wear for long periods and give up on it. It is easy to set aside a baby sling when you have only one child...there are plenty of alternatives - you can use a pram, a shopping trolley (if shopping in large stores), or just carry baby in your arms. This obviously becomes more difficult the more children you have. Double prams are large and a pain to take in and out of the car, shopping trolleys are useful, but what happens when a crying baby wants to be picked up and you have a toddler running amok...life without a sling is unnecessarily harder. We both bought an expensive baby carrier (> $120AUD ) when we had our new babies, but, like many before us, soon cast them aside because they caused back and neck pain when worn. However, when our next babies were born, we again both saw the need for a sling. But instead of reverting to our uncomfortable, chunky carriers, Gabe researched and found a great method for tying an ergonomic and stylish looking sling. But, they were hard to find... department stores, and even specialist baby stores did not stock them. So... Franklyn and Spencer and the Tyion Sling was born in April 2009...our aim was to make these wonderful, funky slings readily available to mums all over the world.
Our aim is to make products that we felt we've needed as parents but were either really difficult to find, or just didn't exist yet. We always have several products in the concept and design phase so please check back with us regularly to see what we've come up with next.
We also like to add new existing product ranges to our website and look specifically for products that are great value for money but are still funky and fashion forward. We love organic products and have just added the fabulous Bamboo Baby range from the UK.
